This Year I Resolve To…
Every year for New Year’s Eve, Chelsea and I get a group of close friends together to celebrate. We cook a huge meal and eat, drink, chat and dance the night away. Oh and this year involved a Polar Bear Swim in the lake!
One of our rituals is to go around the table as each person lists off one of their favorite memories of the past year and one thing they want to give attention to in the new year – a resolution, goal, intention, whatever.
This year, yet again, we circled a table overflowing with close friends, Spanish wine, tapas and a jumbo 30-inch wide seafood paella that Chelsea whipped up (we’re obsessed with Spanish food).
As my turn came, I reflected on what I said last year…
“Bring People Together.”
And a few days later we officially launchedLive Your Legend LOCALwhen our community hosted 150 meetups in 48 countries, nearly all on the same day. And what’s even more magnificent is that many of them have continued to meet every month since then.

There is no question that LYL Local has been the most powerful force I’ve ever been a part of it, when it comes to impact.
It’s allowed our Revolution to take on a life of its own. It’s allowed so many of you all to become the leader – from every corner of the world. The the impact it’s made on the attendees and hosts has been nothing short of magical.
And as I sat at the dinner table in Tahoe again last week, I realized that I resolve to do the same thing – to bring people together.
Tomorrow, on January 6th, 2015, we are celebrating the first year Anniversary of Live Your Legend LOCAL.
The only difference between this year and last?
Well, for one we actually have some clue about what we’re doing and we have a hell of a team of host volunteers to make it all possible. There was a lot of fumbling and screwing things up this year (because I massively underestimated what was required to effectively organize such a global movement).
哦,今年看起来我们要聚会in over 250 cities in over 70 countries. Not bad for a year’s growth!
Take a minute to sit back and think about what that means? Real people, coming together in the real world, to help each other pursue their dreams and find and do work that makes them come alive.
And it’s now happening every month.
My 30-year vision for LYL Local is…
To have an LYLL community within 20 miles of every city and town in the world. I’m in no hurry with this, but I’m confident that one day it will happen – certainly if you all keep showing up the way you are.
Because when you boil it down, this is Live Your Legend’s fundamental purpose:To bring inspiring, passionate people together online and in the real world to support each other in doing the world-changing work that makes them come alive.
There is no more powerful strategy on the planet for personal transformation than choosing the right surroundings.

What makes this year’s resolution all the more meaningful, is that as I write this, Chelsea is in the background turing the house upside down as we’ve had friends coming by all day to claim all of our sh*t. As we prepare to move out of the only house we’ve ever lived in together.
Why?
Because everything must go. (well, except what we can fit into two 45-Litre backpacks, and a few things we’ll story at our parents).
Why?
Because on January 10th we are setting off on a yearlong trip around the world, something we’ve dreamed and talked about for over a decade. (btw, our World Tour website will be announced soon)
And today it has more purpose than ever. Because this trip will be our vehicle for doing our small part in bringing the world a little bit closer together – as we host LYL events and dinner parties for LYLers and friends we meet along the way.
As it turns out, last year was stage one of bringing people together.
This year is feeling like stages 2 to 1,000.
So, yes, things are starting to feel very real right about now.
My only question for you today is … Are you with me?
Take a second to think about what could be different if you and those around you had a supportive community of friends in your hometown to make your ideas and dreams come to life. That ripple could be enormous. In fact, it already is and will continue to be.
As long as you’re willing to show up.
So today I ask you to please take 5 minutes to do the following:

This is no different. This community, this vision, this idea would be impossible without the help of over 100,000 of you around the world.
I’m not sure if a meetup of this nature with this type of global scale has ever been done in the past (other than us last year – haha). And while last year I was damn nervous, bordering on mild panic – this year I am nothing but pure excitement. Because I know what happens when we join forces in the real world.
And I cannot wait to feel it again!
